Cambios en Ultra Street Fighter IV



Ultra Street fighter IV será la próxima actualización del juego más popular de Capcom en la última década. De momento se encuentra en una fase previa de su desarrollo con arcades de prueba en Japón de la que los jugadores están sacando los cambios provisionales que Capcom está aportando al juego. Quitando los cambios generales que ya conocemos desde hace tiempo, una serie de jugadores han hecho un listado (en inglés) con todos los cambios hasta el momento personaje por personaje:

Abel

  • Close Standing HP first hit hitbox greatly expanded downward
  • Far Standing HK start-up reduced from 14F to 13F; active frames increased from 2F to 3F; hurtbox added to attacking foot on the 1st attack frame
  • EX Falling Sky active frames increased from 2F to 3F; upper-body invincibility increased from 6-7F to 6-8F
  • Heartless (Super Combo) active frames increased by 2F
  • Soulless (UC1) pushbox greatly expanded upward, easier to connect from Crouching HP in the corner

Adon

  • Close Standing HK hitbox slightly expanded forward and upward
  • Far Standing HK changed from 2 hits to 1 hit, damage changed from 40*80 to 120
  • Jaguar Crunch (6+MP) frame advantage against standing opponents reduced from +4 to +3
  • L and M Jaguar Kick damage reduced from 140 to 130
  • H Jaguar Kick damage reduced from 130 to 120
  • All versions of Air Jaguar Kick chip reduced to half
  • EX Air Jaguar Kick 1st hit active frames 2F and later now overhead
  • L Rising Jaguar Kick 2nd hit on grounded opponents floats higher upward and slightly more forward, easier to follow in the corner
  • Jaguar Revolver (UC1) forward movement from 2nd hit and after slightly shortened, easier to connect on close opponents; damage reduced from 510 to 480

Akuma

  • Close Standing MK now forces stand on hit; start-up reduced from 5F to 4F; hitbox expanded downward
  • Crouching HK can no longer be cancelled into Wrath of the Raging Demon (UC1)
  • All versions of Back Jump Zanku Hadoken recovery increased by 2F
  • M Goshoryuken 2nd hit can no longer be EX Focus-cancelled on hit
  • H Goshoryuken 2nd and 3rd hit can no longer be EX Focus-cancelled on block; invincibility time reduced from 6F to 5F
  • L, M and H Hyakkishu now has EX Zanku Hadoken follow-up

Balrog

  • L Dash Straight changed from -2 to -1 on hit, from -3 to -1 on block
  • L Dash Swing Blow charge time reduced from 55F to 44F 35F; stun reduced from 80 to 70; changed from +10 to ±0 on hit, from -5 to -2 on block
  • M Dash Swing Blow charge time reduced from 55F to 50F 4oF; changed from +10 to +2 on hit, from -7 to -6 -3 on block
  • Turn Punch charge from Level 2-5 is ~2 second per level, later levels rise at ~4 second per level
  • Violent Buffalo (UC1) last hit changes to a straight when holding P, uppercut when holding K; 4th and 5th hits no longer unconnect during combos
  • Dirty Bull (UC2) input command changed from 63214×2+PPP to 720+PPP; recovery reduced from 58F to 48F; throw range extended from 1.09 to 1.3; damage reduced from 399 to 120

Blanka

  • Forward Dash total frames reduced from 21F to 20F
  • Close Standing MK now airborne from 3F
  • Crouching MK pushback on guard and hit increased; changed from +4 to +5 on hit
  • H Rolling Attack knocks down the opponent at all distances
  • All versions of Backstep Roll cause 2F more block stun
  • All versions of Vertical Roll can be EX Focus-cancelled on hit or block

C.Viper

  • Close Standing HP damage increased from 90 to 100
  • Far Standing HP damage increased from 90 to 100
  • Far Standing HK hurtbox slightly reduced
  • Crouching MK hitbox slightly expanded forward
  • Level 1 Focus Attack start-up reduced from 26F to 23F
  • Level 2 Focus Attack start-up reduced from 17F to 13F after button release
  • Level 3 Focus Attack start-up reduced from 70F to 68F
  • L Thunder Knuckle hitbox slightly expanded
  • M Thunder Knuckle now +4 after EX Focus-cancel → Forward Dash on hit; bug where M Thunder Knuckle → EX Level 2 Focus → Forward Dash would not work fixed; cannot be EX Red Focus-cancelled on hit
  • H Thunder Knuckle cancel recovery increased from 6F to 7F
  • Emergency Combination (Super Combo) damage increased from 330 to 350
  • Burst Time (UC1) smoke visual effects reduced
  • Burning Dance (UC2) start-up reduced from 10F to 9F, height restriction removed

Cammy

  • Close Standing HP damage reduced from 85 to 80 75; stun reduced from 150 to 120
  • Far Standing HP 1st active frame damage reduced from 80 to 70; 2nd and 3rd active frame damage reduced from 100 to 70, stun reduced from 200 to 150
  • Crouching LK start-up increased from 3F to 4F; can no longer be chain-cancelled into Crouching LK
  • Crouching HP damage reduced from 90 to 80; stun reduced from 200 to 150; changed from +7 to +6 +5 on hit
  • L, M and H Cannon Strike height restriction slightly relaxed; recovery increased from 5F to 7F 9F
  • EX Cannon Strike block stun reduced by 4F
  • Hooligan Combination now has normal Cannon Strike follow-up
  • Gyro Drive Smasher (UC1) non-cinematic last hit damage reduced from 210 to 170

Chun-Li

  • Vitality increased from 900 to 950
  • Jump total frames reduced from 41F to 35F
  • Rear Spin Kick (3+LK) hitbox expanded, start-up reduced from 12F to 10F
  • Yosokyaku (Jump 2+MK) hitbox expanded downward and horizontally
  • L, M and H Spinning Bird Kick now knock down on last hit
  • EX Spinning Bird Kick hitbox slightly expanded forward and downward; 5th hit hitbox slightly expanded upward
  • EX Kikoken now causes knockdown on hit
  • EX Hazanshu now has armor-break properties
  • Kikosho (UC2) damage increased from 330 to 365 380; invincibility increased from 8F to 9F, covering the start of active frames

Cody

  • Back Dash distance slightly increased
  • Crouching MK changed from -6 to -2 on block, from -3 to -1 on hit
  • Crack Kick (6+HK) now airborne from 8F instead 1F
  • Knife ground attacks now can be used as follow-ups, can combo after L Criminal Upper; corresponds to Standing LP, Crouching LP, Standing MP, Crouching MP, Standing HP, Crouching MP
  • Knife Throw now has armor-break properties
  • Zonk Knuckle can now be EX Focus-cancelled
  • EX Criminal Upper pushback on block reduced by half; now strike invincible until 1F before active
  • Last Dread Dust (UC2) damage reduced from 506 to 466, forward movement slightly increased

Dan

  • Far Standing LP hitbox slightly expanded upward
  • Close Standing HK input command changed to 4+HK
  • Crouching Taunt meter build increased from 0 to 40, meter build on hit reduced from 70 to 0
  • Air Taunt meter build increased from 0 to 10
  • L Dankukyaku hitbox expanded downward

Evil Ryu

  • Vitality increased from 900 to 950
  • Crouching MK block stun extended by 1F
  • Crouching HK start-up reduced from 7F to 6F
  • Senbukyaku (6+MK) hitbox greatly expanded downward
  • Target Combo can now be done from Far Standing MP
  • L Tatsumaki Senpukyaku movement distance slightly increased; float on hit lower
  • HK Ryusokyaku start-up reduced from 26F to 25F

Fei Long

  • Crouching LK start-up increased from 3F to 4F; can no longer be chain-cancelled into Crouching LK
  • Crouching MP damage increased from 55 to 65
  • L Rekka forward movement distance reduced
  • All versions of Tenshin now do 1 damage; take counter-hit damage during the move
  • EX Tenshin start-up reduced from 12F to 10F

  • Target Combo second hit expanded downward, easier to hit on crouching opponents
  • H Hozanto start-up reduced from 30F to 28F
  • Sudden Stop recovery reduced from 17F to 16F
  • Neck Flip first hit slightly expanded downward

  • Leap Attack (Jump 22+MK) now airborne 2F instead of 1F; from 4F now lower-body projectile invincible; knock back on air hit changed to how Jump MK hits
  • Ultra Throw no longer activates without Back input; 1st hit no longer causes stun, 2nd hit stun increased from 100 to 150
  • Meat Squasher simple command removed, without Forward or Back input → through Down inputs → ending with Up input, will not activate
  • L Monster Lariat start-up reduced from 15F to 14F
  • M Monster Lariat start-up reduced from 19F to 14F
  • H Monster Lariat start-up reduced from 24F to 18F
  • EX Monster Lariat now has two hits of armor

  • Hammer Kick (6+MK) hitbox expanded downward; changed from +3 to +2 on block
  • Target Combo 4 (LP → MP → HP near opponent) 2nd hit hitbox expanded downward
  • L Kunai throw angle now slightly weaker
  • L, M and H Tsujigoe recovery reduced by 6F

Vocabulario de los juegos de lucha

Considero necesario empezar el blog con un vocabulario de los juegos de lucha. No están todos los terminos que existen, pero sí los más importantes y usados:



2 in 1: La forma primitiva de llamar a los cancel. Igual que el cancel consiste en meter un golpe y cancelarlo inmediatamente con otro.
360: La abreviatura para indicar que un movimiento se realiza moviendo el mando desde adelante hacia adelante de nuevo pasando por abajo, atrás y arriba formando un circulo completo.
Abare: Termino relativamente nuevo que se usa para describir la habilidad de un personaje para causar un gran daño de golpes y circunstancias random, así como ser capaz de conseguir combos efectivos de los hits más básicos.
Advance blocking: Una manera de defenderse que proporciona varias ventajas a quien la usa. Mas complicado de realizar que el bloqueo normal difiere su ejecución según el juego. El primero en incluirlo fue World Heroes 2. Distintas variedades de advance blocking son el just defend, instant guard o parries.
Aerial rave: Terminologia de la serie vs de Capcom para un chain combo que se realiza mientras el personaje está en el aire, bien sea comenzado como un ataque terrestre como un launcher o bien empezando directamente en el aire. La diferencia principal entre aerial rave y juggle es que en los aerial raves ambos personajes están en el aire, mientras que en un juggle uno de los personajes está en el suelo mientras ataca al otro que está en el aire.
Anti air: Ataque que sirve como protección para golpes que realiza el rival desde el aire. Ya sea un simple salto con golpe o un ataque concreto que se realice por el aire. Un ejemplo clasico es el Shoryuken de Ryu que sirve para detener cualquier intento del rival de atacar por el aire.
Baiting: Es provocar una cierta reacción del rival a través de ciertos movimientos. Por ejemplo si Ryu lanza un Hadouken el rival salta con lo que provocamos que se quede indefenso ante nuestro Shoryuken posterior.
Berserker: Persona que ataca constantemente sin preocuparse de defenderse
Block stun: El tiempo en el que un personaje permanece indefenso tras defenderse de un ataque. Se mide en frames y constituye una ventaja muy importante para jugadores avanzados.  




Bounce: Ténica que consiste en golpear al rival al final de un juggle o cuando está cayendo para que rebote en el suelo y se pueda continuar el combo. Se puede utilizar en Virtua Fighter 5 o Tekken 6 entre otros.
Broken: Personaje, movimiento, etc que es demasiado poderoso con respecto al resto. Ejemplo: Gouki en Super street fighter II X
Buffer: Aprovechar el input de un comando para efectuar otro sin tener que introducirlo completamente. Para que se entienda bien vamos al street fighter que todo el mundo lo conoce. Con Guile puedes realizar una flash kick e, introduciendo solo la ultima parte del super cancelarlo con el super combo sin tener que introducir todo el comando ya que la primera parte se queda almacenada abreviando el camino para conseguirlo.
Cancel: Realizar un ataque y, antes de que acabe la animacion del mismo cancelarlo realizando otro movimiento
Chain combo: Un combo que se efectua uniendo golpe flojo-medio-fuerte de manera consecutiva. Al contrario de los combos normales que pueden enganchar dos golpes de la misma intensidad (puño fuerte + shoryuken fuerte por ejemplo) en un chain combo enganchas golpes en sucesión sin importar si son patadas o puñetazos siempre y cuando vayas de menos a mas fuerza.
Cheap: Meter un golpe especial o superior cuando el rival no tiene apenas vida. Es una tecnica muy común para asegurar la victoria una vez que el rival esta medio muerto y no quieres jugartela ya sea metiendo un especial que tenga un daño residual alto que permita que, de bloquearse, el rival pierda al instante. Algunos juegos muestran esta palabra cuando realizas esta acción.
Clash: Cuando dos movimientos de la misma fuerza se realizan a la vez el daño es absorvido por ambos por lo que ningún luchador recibe daños. Si se trata de un ataque multi-hit solo tendrá efecto en el primero de ellos a no ser que el rival efectue otro ataque multi-hit. Visto en juegos como Arcaja Heart y Jojo. 
Corner Trap: Literalmente es tener atrapado a tu rival en una de las esquinas del escenario aprovechando la ventaja que esta te ofrece para terminar con el. Al tener la limitacion del muro el rival no puede efectuar movimientos hacia atras por lo que está mas limitado. Algunos personajes basan su estrategia en mantener a los rivales atrapados.
Crossup: Consiste en efectuar un salto frente al rival de tal manera que vayas a caer justo detrás suya golpeando causando que la dirección que tenga que pulsar el rival sea la opuesta de la logica en un primer momento. Debido a que el golpe puede llegar en cualquier momento (antes de cruzar, durante o después) puede confundir mucho en cuanto a la manera de defenderse.
Crouch dash: Un dash que se ejecuta desde la posición de agachado ya sea quieto o en movimiento. Visto normalmente en lucha 3d como en Tekken o Virtua Fighter. Puede realizarse un crouch dash tras otro lo que da lugar al movimiento conocido como wavedash. Este movimiento tiene la capacidad de evadir ataques elevados y algunos funcionan como parries bajos.
Damage scalling: Sistema por medio del cual se van reduciendo los daños ocasionados por los golpes cuanto mas largo es un combo resultando que determinados golpes quiten menos vida en un combo largo que efectuados de manera independiente.
Dash: Técnica mediante la cual el personaje ejecuta un movimiento rápido hacia adelante o atrás para recortar o poner distancia con el rival. Muy útil para desplazarse rápidamente por la pantalla sin necesidad de saltar.
Dizzy: Los pajaritos o estrellitas como siempre se han llamado en este pais. Dejar a un rival aturdido de tal manera que no puede defenderse de ningun modo.
Endurance: Un combate en el que debes derrotar a varios oponentes, uno tras otro, con una sola barra de vida. Similar a combates survival o time attacks con la diferencia de que no son a un solo round sino al mejor de tres rondas. Introducidos por primera vez en Mortal Kombat. 



Fake: Ataque fingido, es  decir que el personaje realiza la animacion del ataque pero no lo realiza, como por ejemplo el nuevo fake hadoken de ryu en Super street fighter II X hd remix
Frame list: Una lista detallada de los frames de cada ataque de un determinado personaje. Cada segundo está dividido en 60 frames y, gracias a esta lista, es posible saber si ciertos ataques tienen mas preferencia que otros, tiempo de recuperación, cuanto tardan en activarse, etc. Fundamental para jugadores avanzados.
Gauge/meter: Barra individual que se utiliza para realizar super combos y movimientos definitivos de los personajes. Puede estar dividida en fragmentos o niveles según el juego y servir además para realizar ataques ex o determinados movimientos especiales como roman cancels o entrar en estados alterados. Suele situarse en la parte inferior de la pantalla.
Guard impact: Movimiento defensivo de la saga Soul Calibur donde nuestro personaje detiene el golpe del rival y lo deflecta o contraataca según el caso. Se ejecuta pulsando adelante mas guardia para contraataques dándonos una ventaja de frames para golpear, o atrás mas guardia para deflectar el golpe y colocarnos en posición ventajosa respecto al rival. 


 
Hit box: La superficie de la pantalla que ocupa la parte activa de un ataque. Es decir la cantidad de espacio en pantalla en la que un ataque puede golpear al rival. Suele estar representada por cajas (de ahí el nombre).

Homing: Técnica que consiste en un dash/rush muy rápido que nos lleva en cuestión de decimas al lugar donde se encuentra el rival. En la saga Arcana Heart se utiliza pulsando un botón que lleva al personaje hacia el rival esté donde esté permitiendonos alargar combos y poner mas presión.
Juggle: Combo que se realiza con el rival en el aire no dejandolo caer al suelo
Jump cancel: Cancelar un movimiento con un salto. Visto en Fate Unlimited codes nos permite alargar combos. Solo algunos movimientos pueden cancelarse con salto
Just defense: Movimiento consistente en defenderse en el último movimiento posible para gozar de diversos efectos positivos. En Garou motw recupera vida, en otros juegos aumenta la barra de supers, etc...
Just frame: Realizar un ataque en un frame o intervalo de frames muy corto para potenciar un golpe, etc.
Kara throw: Es reducir el rango de un lanzamiento mediante la introducción de un comando previo que resultará cancelado por el mismo lanzamiento. De esta manera puedes agarrar a rivales que no están en distancia normal de lanzamiento.
Launcher: Movimiento que sirve para empezar juggles consistente en un ataque que levanta al rival del suelo dejándolo indefenso para el consiguiente combo.
Machacabotones: Persona que no sabe jugar al juego y se dedica a presionar todos los botones y direcciones esperando que le salga algo
Meaty attack: Ataques que se realizan cuando el rival se está levantando del suelo. Una parte fundamental del juego ya que mantienes al rival pensando en que vas a realizar, golpes bajos, overheads, lanzamientos o quizá esperar a que falle con un reversal y castigarle.
Mirror match: Enfrentamiento entre dos personajes idénticos. Un ejemplo seria un Haohmaru vs Haohmaru.
Mixup: Técnica consistente en efectuar ataques más difíciles de prever. Consiste normalmente en la mezcla de varios ataques (bajos, overheads...) que son difíciles de prever por el rival.
Negative edge: Soltar un botón en lugar de presionarlo para ejecutar un golpe especial. Es decir que en lugar de efectuar el comando y pulsar un botón, consiste en tener ese botón presionado y soltarlo justo cuando termine el movimiento del mismo.
Neutral state: Posición en la que el personaje se encuentra de pie frente a su adversario sin realizar ningún movimiento o input de uno. Estado que se alcanza no pulsando ninguna dirección en el stick y que nos permite pasar a cualquier punto del mismo.
Okizeme: Es el arte de poner presión a un oponente que se esta levantando. Normalmente poniéndolo en una situación en la que deba bloquear, habitualmente realizando una nueva cadena de ataques o con un proyectil. Es un termino usado en juegos de lucha 3d similar al usado en los juegos 2d meaty attack con la diferencia de que en un juego 2d los oponentes no pueden ser golpeados al caer al suelo, mientras que en un juego 3d pueden ser atacados en esta situación e, incluso, levantarles con el ataque y continuar poniendo presión en ellos. Normalmente hay técnicas de recuperación rápida en todos los juegos para evitar este tipo de técnicas.
Overhead: Ataque del que solo te puedes cubrir estando de pie, no agachado
Parry: Movimiento defensivo-ofensivo consistente en detener un golpe y contraatacar con una ventaja temporal sobre el oponente 




Piano input: Presionar y soltar varios botones en un rápido movimiento para realizar ataques que requieren de la pulsación de un solo botón, especiales o supers. Muy útil para tick throws o reversals.
Poke: Ataque seguro a media o larga distancia, es decir, ataque que realizas sabiendo que no serás contraatacado en el transcurso del mismo
Random super: Tipo de persona que utiliza los especiales una vez los tiene a su disposicion sin pensar en el momento idoneo para meterlos
Recovery: Recuperar la postura para caer al suelo de pie tras ser golpeado en el aire o lanzado por el mismo
Reversal: Efectuar un movimiento especial mientras te levantas tras ser tumbado. Para que sea reversal debe efectuarse de tal manera que el personaje no pase por posición neutral siendo la animación de estar tumbado al ataque especial consecutiva.
Ring out: Victoria obtenida mediante la expulsión del rival del terreno de lucha. Se encuentra en 3d fighting games.
Roll cancel: Método para dotar a ciertos movimientos especiales de una invencibilidad temporal propia del roll. Desarrollado para Capcom Vs Snk donde se conseguía consiguiendo un kara cancel c/a/n groove roll cancelando con super combo.
Roman cancel: En la saga Guilty gear movimiento que cancela un ataque consumiendo la mitad de la barra de tensión para alargar un combo sobre todo 



Scrub: Jugador novato con poca experiencia y mucha arrogancia. El típico que se cree mejor que tu en un juego pero no alcanza la dimensión total del mismo.
Tech: Escape de un lanzamiento que reduce la cantidad de daño recibido Tick: Cualquier ataque, que, golpeando o bloqueando, se use para crear espacio y tiempo para ejecutar un lanzamiento
Tier list: Lista de personajes de un determinado juego de lucha ordenados según lo buenos que sean en ese juego en orden similar a este: god tier, top tier, middle tier, low tier y bottom tier 


 
Turtle: Persona que lucha a golpes sueltos, huyendo al rincon y esperando al rival para contraatacarlo
Wakeup: Levantarse del suelo literalmente. Varios juegos permiten acelerar el tiempo de recuperación del personaje pulsando ciertos comandos. Por wakeup también se entienden las tácticas que efectúas al levantarte como meter un reversal, hacer backdash, etc...
Whiff: Movimiento que no alcanza al contrario. Usado intencionalmente en ocasiones para rellenar barra de super, reducir recovery time de ciertos movimientos o cancelar con otro movimiento.
Zoning: Usar las armas de tu personaje para mantener al rival a una distancia segura. Ejemplo: Dhalsim es un personaje que en Street fighter IV ejerce un gran zoning ya que su eficacia aumenta cuanto mas lejos está el rival y se reduce cuanto mas cerca se encuentre.

Retro análisis: The last blade

Y comenzamos con los análisis a juegos retro:

Finales de 1997. Snk lanza a los arcades un nuevo juego de lucha completamente nuevo, no una continuación de sus ya míticas sagas. El titulo Bakumatsu Roman: Gekka no Kenshi, Last Blade fuera de Japón se convirtió no solo en un gran éxito, sino en uno de los mejores juegos de lucha de todos los tiempos. Veamos por qué:



Mucho antes de que la humanidad existiese, en tiempos míticos, la muerte era una desconocida, un concepto lejano, pero cuando la primera muerte llegó al mundo, el “mensajero de Afar” nació. Con el tiempo, dos mundos, uno al lado del otro, fueron creados. La historia de la vida y la muerte comenzó. Hoy día Kagami ha abierto la puerta entre ambos mundos trayendo a la vida al legendario bushi Musashi. Solo unos pocos guerreros son capaces de hacerle frente.  

Así comienza la historia. Una historia que nos lleva al Japón del siglo XIX. Nada más meter la primera moneda llegamos a la pantalla de elección de personaje, donde doce guerreros se muestran a nuestra disposición. Todos ellos japoneses excepto Lee que es Chino. Todos llevan armas excepto Shigen luchan con armas. Recogiendo el testigo (todavía vivo pero no mucho) de la popular franquicia Samurai Spirits, Snk nos brinda la oportunidad de jugar a un nuevo juego de estética similar pero gameplay diferente que lo hace único. 

La máquina cuenta con cuatro botones de ataque como es norma habitual en Snk llamados A, B, C y D. El primero es un golpe débil, el segundo una patada, el tercero un golpe fuerte y el cuarto un botón de parry. Si pulsamos D justo cuando vamos a recibir un ataque del rival lo bloqueamos y obtenemos ventaja para contraatacar, igual que el parry de Street fighter III. Si pulsamos el botón sin que recibamos ataque atraeremos un poquito al enemigo. Con estos cuatro botones efectuamos todos los golpes y movimientos que el juego dispone como throws o Chain combos. Si pulsamos B y C simultáneamente propinaremos un cuarto golpe aún más fuerte que C pero más lento.  



Cada personaje cuenta con un mínimo de tres o cuatro ataques especiales así como dos supers. Un desperation move que se puede ejecutar tan pronto la barra de super esté llena, y un super desperation move que, además del requisito de la barra, requiere que nuestra barra de vida esté en las últimas. Cuando contamos con tan poca vida y la barra de supers está cargada podemos realizar tantos desperation moves como queramos hasta que finalice la ronda, sin embargo si realizamos el super desperation move la barra se vaciará. 


Todo esto de momento es lo normal en un juego de lucha. Lo que diferencia a Last Blade del resto son sus dos modos de juego. Nada más seleccionar un personaje se nos pide que elijamos un estilo de lucha entre power y speed. La elección es muy importante porque según cual seleccionemos dispondremos de unas ventajas u otras. Power nos ofrece más daño en nuestros ataques y la posibilidad de realizar super desperation moves, mientras que speed no tiene super desperation moves pero nos permite realizar una especie de custom combos y además encadenar ataques normales y cancelarlos con especiales que en modo power no podemos creando grandes combos. La elección de un modo u otro depende de cómo queramos jugar.  

Realmente cambia mucho el juego si juegas con power o con speed ya que los combates se afrontan de manera diferente y podemos usar nuestras ventajas a favor en según qué situaciones. Todos estos elementos conforman un gameplay rico y variado más aún para tratarse de una primera entrega de una franquicia, cosa poco habitual. Un detalle que destacar es el gran buffer del juego en el tema de combos permitiéndonos introducir comandos enteros uno o dos ataques antes. Es un detalle que ayuda a los novatos y que no perjudica al gameplay ya que solo se aplica en este caso. 




Gráficamente el juego destaca bastante. Han pasado doce años desde su salida pero aún hoy los gráficos son perfectamente aceptables y no se resienten. Los escenarios están muy bien dibujados y algunos de ellos cuentan con público. Antes de cada combate podemos ver una escena introductoria de cada escenario siendo este un detalle de agradecer. Los personajes están perfectamente animados y cuentan con multitud de sprites según la situación. Nada que reprochar en este aspecto, al contrario, un gran trabajo que destaca aún hoy día. 

Musicalmente el juego es bueno. Quizá no son melodías de las que te acuerdas por la calle tiempo después, pero todas encajan perfectamente en su escenario y son de una calidad notable. Incluso en algunos combates la falta de música se agradece dando al combate un tono solemne muy interesante. 

El modo historia consta de diez combates siendo los ocho primeros contra rivales normales (el cuarto y el octavo pueden tener historia), el noveno contra Musashi y el décimo contra el final boss Kagami. Decir que se agradece que Snk ponga dos final bosses de dificultad más elevada que el resto de personajes pero no tanto como normalmente suele hacer haciendo posible que los derrotemos sin perder el juicio. Kagami de hecho es bastante asequible en el primer round, transformándose en el segundo pero tampoco siendo abusivo. Una vez le derrotamos podemos ver un ending con texto e imágenes. El arcade nos permitía jugar con Musashi y Kagami mediante la introducción de un código no demasiado complicado lo que facilita en exceso el juego (que no es muy complicado) ya que estos dos personajes están claramente por encima del resto con ataques abusivos. Con otro código podíamos desbloquear un modo time attack para jugar al juego y poner record de tiempo y otro código para seleccionar un estilo de pelea ex que mezcla las ventajas de power y speed. 


 
En cuanto a ports el juego ha contado con varios. Obviamente ha pasado por las consolas domesticas de Snk así como en Psx donde se le añadieron secuencias anime y ps2 en una recopilación que incluye la segunda parte. 
 


Sin lugar a dudas es un juego que todo seguidor de los juegos de lucha tiene que haber jugado. La diversión que proporciona, el gameplay sin fallos y el hecho de contar con una plantilla sin personajes de bulto, hacen de él un imprescindible. Si nunca lo has probado aún estás a tiempo de hacerte con el recopilatorio (vía importación) para ps2. Si ya lo jugaste, vuelve a hacerlo. Es sin duda uno de los mejores fighting games de todos los tiempos, y eso no es poco.
